Overview

Some call Covent Garden London's premier entertainment destination. At its heart lies the famous market designed in 1632 by Inigo Jones: a large, glass-covered building that comprises several arcades of fashionable boutiques and cafes. The market's open piazza is home to street performers who come from all over the world, including living statues, musicians, jugglers and even the occasional variety act.

A string of pubs and restaurants stretches out around the piazza, providing Covent Garden's visitors with an opportunity to sample cuisines from around the globe, and to the north sits the Royal Opera House, which hosts the Royal Opera, the Royal Orchestra, and the Royal Ballet, and is among one of the grandest, most stately buildings in the district - and there are many.
